Covid-19 third wave(OMICRON)
What we know about the Omicron variant.
A new coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2 variant, known as Omicron or B.1.1.529, was first identified by scientists in South Africa on November 24.
The latest variant of the virus that causes the COVID-19 disease is believed to be more transmissible than the already highly transmissible Delta variant. Omicron has already been detected in 106 countries.
Dr Angelique Coetzee, the South African doctor who first alerted authorities to the presence of the new COVID-19 variant, has said muscle aches, fatigue, a scratchy throat and night sweats are common Omicron symptoms.
The data showed that the top five symptoms reported in the app for Omicron infection were a runny nose, headache, fatigue (either mild or severe), sneezing, and a sore throat.
Omicron cases so far.
India has also reported a total of 578 cases of the Omicron variant to date, as per the union health ministry. Of the 578 cases, 151 patients have been discharged. The national capital currently accounts for the highest number of Omicron cases at 142, with Maharashtra a close second at 141 cases.
